We believe profoundly that solving conflicts is better than letting them fester or escalate. Enormous amounts of creativity are lost through unnecessary conflicts in higher education which leads to a net loss to the creative and intellectual resources available to our country and our world. We seek to supplement and not replace existing internal dispute resolution systems already in place within higher education institutions, or the work of the Office of the Independent Adjudicator for Higher Education (www.oiahe.org.uk) or the Scottish Public Services Ombudsman (www.spso.org.uk) Or the European Network of Ombudsmen in Higher Education(ENOHE).
We also seek to provide a much cheaper and more cost effective alternative to expensive legal battles. MSHE is also available to staff and students operating in further education institutions and secondary education in special circumstances, under the same terms and conditions.
Our experience:
Underwritten by the International Institute of Peace Studies and Global Philosophy, which was founded in 1991 at the University of London, MSHE has a considerable experience in dealing with disputes within higher education in both Britain and overseas. Led by IIPSGP Director, Dr. Thomas Clough Daffern PhD, son of the founder of Management by Objectives, the late George N. Daffern (1911-1973), it is able to draw on very considerable research and practice in the fields of conflict management, mediation and peace-making in all types of situations and life settings. MSHE is literally unique and the only body offering such mediation services to higher education. It is also available for private scholars and academics not officially employed in an institution of higher education but who feel their dispute either originated in or is related to the context of higher learning. This can include members of the scientific community working in research institute or in the private sector and include issues such as intellectual property, copyright etc.
Availability:
MSHE is willing to tackle cases involving mediation in academic disputes in the UK, Europe, North America, the Middle East, and worldwide. It is a unique service which has years of experience in this sector and has a proactive philosophy on rebuilding trust and friendship between former colleagues in the interests of advancing the interests of higher learning.
