The Global Green University

The Global Green University has come into being as a result of a Feasibility Study conducted at the University of London into establishing a new Institute of Peace Studies. After an exhaustive study of several years, in which a global survey of education for peace and human rights and social and ecological justice was undertaken, with innumerable leading educators from all over the world consulted, it was discovered that conventional academic structures are still hardly ready to embrace the radical educational agenda which it is felt necessary to help save the planet from war, violence and ecological destruction. A high percentage of official higher education funding in Britain, the USA and worldwide comes from Ministries of Defence, whose total expenditures are enormous. How then can we think through a non-violent world if our very institutions are clouded by military interests? The GGU will be totally free of all such funding and will place research into peace studies, conflict resolution and mediation at the very core of its own research agenda. We believe that the time has come for the leading intellectuals of the planet to reclaim from the educational bureaucrats an autonomous and independent academic space for free and responsible research and study, beyond the funding constraints of the status quo and narrow minded corporate and political interests with their emphasis on short term profits at the expense of intellectual, moral and institutional integrity. The GGU runs it work as a voluntary educational charity, in which the priority the love of wisdom, and the work of individual and planetary healing. As such we are reliant on donations and tuition fees, which are scaled according to the individual circumstances of
students.
The University is structured according to Nine Faculties, named after the Nine Muses of Ancient Philosophy, as a conscious re-invocation of the wisdom teachings of the classical world:

The International Institute of Peace Studies and Global Philosophy, which works in the academic field of peace studies and global philosophy, has arisen out of several years of exploratory work at the Institute of Education (University of London), and is now an autonomous Institute working in close association with academic institutions in the U.K. and abroad. The Institute is providing the academic and educational input to the Multifaith and Multicultural Education and Mediation Service through its international network of mediation and conflict resolution practitioners and specialists.
The Institute organised an innovative series of seminars on conflict resolution and ethics and politics in different world regions in concert with Lord Ennals at the House of Lords from 1993-1995. We attended the United Nations World Social Summit in Copenhagen in 1995, the 1995 International Conference on Peacemaking at Ladnun, Rajasthan, India and the United Nations City Summit in Istanbul in 1996. The Institute also publishes a pioneering journal: "Love, Peace and Wisdom: An International Journal of Education Dedicated to the 9 Muses" and other publications concerning the quest for peace worldwide.

WHY A MUSEUM OF THE MUSES ?
A unique opportunity has arisen in La Creuse, Central France, to develop a superb Museum location as a centre for education, spirituality, the creative arts and peace work. Based at the Castle of the Muses in Scotland for 6 years, our work has now moved to Limousin to Le Musee des Muses as a permanent base.
